Macon Area Tennis Association

With a current membership of approximately 600 and over 55 teams playing USTA League Tennis each season, MATA is a thriving organization. Partnering with the Macon-Bibb County Recreation Department, MATA offers the beginning junior or adult player the opportunity to learn this great game, then to join team play at his/her appropriate level.

The Macon Area Tennis Association is involved in several events each year that celebrate tennis in our community, highlighting programs and benefits of this wonderful sport.

How it Began

The Macon Area Tennis Association was one of the first Community Tennis Associations in Georgia, founded in the early 1970s by John Drew Smith with help from his “Legion of Ladies” and other avid tennis supporters.

Since early days, MATA volunteers have hosted junior and adult tournament events, bringing thousands of visitors to our city and courts each year. We welcome each of you as you join the many champions who have played in Macon along the way to tennis success!
